Kumpulan Kata Mutiara Lao Tzu dan Sedikit Biografi Tentangnya | Lao Tzu atau yang juga dikenal sebagai, Laozi, Laosi, ataupun Laocius, adalah seorang filsuf asal Cina kuno. Laozi banyak dikenal karena ajaran Tao atau Tao Te Ching. Karena ajarannya inilah Laozi banyak dianggap sebagai cikal bakal dari munculnya Taoisme. Lahir dengan nama Li Er Dan, pencetus dari salah satu faham paling kuno di Cina ini lebih banyak dikenal sebagai Laozi karena pekerjaannya sebagai seorang guru. Masa kecil dari Laozi tidak banyak diketahui karena tidak ada catatan tertulis dari masa hidupnya kecuali tentang tulisan kata kata mutiara beliau.

Lao Tzu pada masa mudanya, dikenal sebagai seorang penjaga perpustakaan dari Pengadilan Tinggi Zhou. Pekerjaannya membuatnya menjadi seorang yang gemar membaca dan belajar. Laozi memiliki akses ke berbagai tulisan dan ajaran dan banyak belajar berbagai ilmu selama menjabat sebagai seorang pengawas perpustakaan. Banyak orang mempercayai bahwa semasa masih berada di Zhou, Laozi menikah dan mempunyai seorang putra yang masuk ke dalam jajaran perwira militer kerajaan tersebut.
Keadaan kerajaan yang memburuk akibat permasalahan moral dan hukum kerajaan membuat Laozi memutuskan untuk meninggalkan kerajaan dan mengembara. Banyak sejarawan mencatat Laozi melakukan perjalanan ke barat hingga usia 160 tahun. Pada perjalanannya, Laozi banyak dikabarkan bertemu dengan filsuf maupun agamawan terkenal, salah satunya Siddartha Gautama.
Lao Tzu dikabarkan mengangkat pengikut dari berbagai tempat yang disinggahinya. Salah satu pengikutnya yang paling terkenal adalah Yinxi. Laozi dan Yinxi dianggap sebagai asal muasal demonstrasi Taoisme yang pertama yang dilakukan antara guru dan siswanya. Selain Taoisme, Laozi juga mengajarkan astronomi, hukum dan moral terhadap pengikutnya.
